Briefing: Unified Coalition Space operations

Originally formed from the militaries of the Epsilon Eridani Republic and the Sol System Alliance during the First Interstellar War, in addition to being the military defense force of the Coalition its role has expanded into also carrying out scientific and exploratory tasks for the UGC. The UCSO’s military forces (officially known as the UCSODF) make up a majority of the organization and has the largest and most complex command structure than any other UGC organization. The UCSO is made up of the Army, Navy, Marine, Air Force, and Special Forces branches. The military forces of the Coalition have a long history and are strict followers of tradition. Soldiers of every branch are trained to very high standards and are indoctrinated to be completely loyal to the Coalition and be willing to give everything in order to defend it. Each individual soldier is expected to excel in their role and also demonstrate superior following and understanding of the four principles of the Coalition. In the UCSO a soldier is not just a soldier, they are also a model first class citizen. The troops of the UCSO have been tested over many decades and it continues to train its soldiers in both large and small scale warfare. Currently, the UCSO is in constant combat with Insurrectionists across its territory on various worlds. Though the Insurrectionists are ill trained and ill equipped compared to UCSO troops, some organized cells have grown strong enough to pose a threat to local UCSO garrisons in which case reinforcements are deployed to the planet in order to quell any Insurrectionist uprising.

Command and Organization –

The UCSO’s complex command and organization structure is due to the vast amount of territory it is responsible for defending. It is ultimately commanded by a Marshal Sovereign, who holds the rank of the same name and who exercises supreme command and control over the UCSODF’s military forces. Though the Marshal Sovereign is granted some degree of autonomy, he or she must work in cooperation with the President and the Coalition Senate especially during larger scale operations. Below the Marshal Sovereign are the Sector Marshals who hold the rank of Marshal Commander. Sector Marshals are capable of planning independent military operations within their theater of operations due to the large amount of units at their disposal. The Marshal Sovereign and Sector Marshals remain in constant communication with one another in order to ensure proper coordination across all fronts. From there, each Sector Marshal must delegate the tasks to the officers under their command in order to accomplish the ultimate objective within their respective theater.

Enlisted: Recruited from many worlds across the Coalition, the UCSO’s enlisted personnel make up 85% of the UCSODF. Trained in specialized roles to ensure the success of their mission through teamwork and skill, they are trusted by the officers to carry out orders and get the job done no matter what. Enlisted soldiers take pride in their role as part of the largest fighting force to ever exist in the Milky Way Galaxy, and see their fellow soldiers as brothers and sisters united by their loyalty to the Coalition and to one another. After gaining experience, enlisted personnel are able to serve as Non – Commissioned Officers and obtain a position of authority over fellow enlisted troops. NCOs often serve as mentors to the lower ranks and assist Officers in maintaining discipline and coordination between soldiers. Senior NCOs receive a high degree of respect from the Officers above them, as their experience in combat make them valuable assets and wise advisers.

Officers: Forged to become tenacious leaders, officers make up only 15% of the UCSODF. Their unparalleled leadership ability more than makes up for their low numbers. A vast majority of the UCSO’s Commissioned Officers begin training at the young age of 16, receiving their commission upon graduation at the age of 21. Officers are indoctrinated to uphold and spread the ideology of the UGC and its four principles to the troops under their command in order to maintain high morale and reassure their troops that they are fighting for the right reasons, no matter how desperate a combat situation might become. Steadfast in their service to the Coalition, Officers are allowed to summarily execute soldiers, citizens, and enemies alike if they deem appropriate. Though such occurrences are uncommon, they are a stern reminder to every individual that the UCSO is resolute in its commitment to its way of life and will cast aside anyone that stands in its way. As such, UCSO officers can be both an inspiration and a terror to their troops under their command as they either recite stirring speeches during and before combat or enforce military duty by executing those that betray or cower in the face of a fight.

Branches –

Army: The oldest and largest branch in the UCSO, the army is often the first branch called upon by the Coalition. Army soldiers are called troopers, and are trained to perform a wide range of duties from peacekeeping to large scale planetary assaults. An essential tool in maintaining stability across the UGC, each member planet has at the very least one garrison of army troopers stationed planet side for protection against foreign and domestic threats.

Navy: The second largest branch in the UCSO, the Navy is responsible for both the transportation of soldiers and the defense of Coalition space. Units of other branches are always assigned a ship or fleet to ensure the unit has a proper means of transportation between worlds. A Maritime Navy is also maintained to defend the waters of UGC worlds in addition to working closely with UCSO Marines.

Marine: The UCSO Marine Corps are a small branch in the armed services that specialize in amphibious assaults and naval boarding action. Every Marine must be trained in water and extravehicular combat in addition to the already demanding skills required to survive in such environments. Marines must also master close quarters combat for missions that involve fighting in the interior of a ship or space station.

Air Force: The Air Force is tasked with maintaining air and space superiority across the Coalition. Many UCSO pilots are cross trained in the operation of different aircraft in order to maintain the Air Force’s ability to undertake a wide array of missions including air support, dogfighting, and assaults on enemy ships. Pilots also must be prepared to fly in a variety of environments that include both space and within the atmosphere of planets.

Special Forces: The smallest branch in the UCSO, it is relatively secretive when compared to the other branches. It is known that the Special Forces branch primarily consist of the triumvirate of the Special Forces Operational Command – Omega (SFOC – O), Special Operation Rapid Insertion Commandos (SORIC), and Black Operations (Black Ops). Special Forces soldiers are recruited from all branches of the military and are the best of the best of the already highly trained UCSO fighting forces.
